In 2016, Linguist Tullio De Mauro (Torre Annunziata, 1923 - Rome, 2017) received honorary citizenship from Marsala.
“As a sign of our high esteem for his intense cultural, human and social activity, which he has carried out and continues to promote through appointments and prestigious roles, as well as for his attachment and consolidated sense of belonging to our city, the local community and the City of Marsala are honoured to extend honorary citizenship to Tullio De Mauro, Professor Emeritus of Humanities at Sapienza University of Rome.”
Now, Marsala honours the linguist, one year after his passing, with a cycle of meetings entitled Understanding Words, Words and Things (Tullio De Mauro’s Alphabet) and hosted by Angela Ruggirello and Sal Giampino’s Arts Gallery on Via Rapisardi.
