Twenty-five years: a story of connections

Twenty-five years: a story of connections

From Milan to Rome, a video marks the anniversary of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, exploring art, research, social innovation and community

Four modular steel sculptures, two botanical gardens, and encounters between people and organisations united by a shared desire to make knowledge accessible to all. The video Knowledge that Connects traces the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, through images and testimonies gathered in Milan and Rome by videomaker Francesco Faralli.

The narrative begins with the installation by the artist Loris Cecchini, hosted in the Brera and Rome Botanical Gardens. The four works, created using modular elements that connect and extend throughout the space, represent the relationships that the Foundation has been building since 2001 between people, schools, universities, businesses and institutions.
‘The various components do not exist in isolation, but only in relation to one another,’ the video reminds us. This is a key interpretative framework that runs through the entire cultural project, in the dialogue between contemporary art, scientific research and nature. This journey is complemented by the workshops organised by Unidata, dedicated to the connections between science, digital technology and the environment.
The footage also captures moments of institutional dialogue, beginning with the Rome conference on the impact of digital technology on the social economy. The meeting, which involved over 30 third-sector organisations, led to the drafting and launch of a Charter for Inclusive Digital Transformation, with the aim of helping to steer innovation towards participation, rights and social cohesion.
The story continues with the reception hosted by the Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of the United States of America in Italy and concludes with a celebration at the Foundation’s headquarters in Quadraro, attended by staff, students and members of the public.

A journey through places, experiences and people who have helped shape twenty-five years of social innovation. And an opportunity to recognise, in the relationships forged along this journey, the resources needed to tackle the new challenges of the digital society.
