Touching People's Lives

Yesterday, at C.A.T.T.I.D. (Centre for Television and Digital Innovation Applications) at the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, a round table was organised on the issue of Digital Citizenship by the innovation laboratory.

The round table addressed a number of issues including active participation of citizens in the information society, digital identity, social inclusion and information. Many innovation experts and citizens of all ages participated. Attilio, one of the participants, explained “I was born at the same time as the first calculator and very few people my age know anything about new technologies, I think free training should be extended to everyone.”

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale addresses this issue through an inter-generational project, Grandparents on the Internet, involving digital literacy courses for over sixties. The courses are held by young tutors (school students) under the supervision of coordinating teachers. This activity is part of the Foundation’s wider objective: an inclusive knowledge society for all.

Alfonso Molina, Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, addressed the meeting with his view on social innovation. It must be multi-sectorial, integrate the physical and the virtual and provide answers to the challenges posed by the 21st century.
