Telemouse at the Elderly Centre!

The final concepts before the end of course examination are exposed by Marco, a fifth year student at the Istituto d’istruzione superiore Leopoldo Pirelli. Sixteen grandparents are fully concentrated on his words. Marco is confident and uses simple words. Just like the grandparents, the 30 hours of Telemouse lessons, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Telecom Italia, have been precious for Marco who has devised a sort of didactic methodology.

The course was held in Rome's 9th District, one of the areas with the largest percentage of over-65s (25%). Villa Lais is one of the 5 elderly centres in the district that totals 4000 members.

Ana Lain recorded the impressions of the grandparents after the last lesson on March 24.

“I’m over 80, but already on the waiting list for the next course …”
Mario Cori, President of the Villa Lais Social Centre

“The tutors are very good at what they do … they surely can become teachers.” The take it in turns, two each week, to hold lessons at the elderly centre.”
Emanuela De Marco, Coordinator of the Telemouse Project

The first lesson was very hard, but then ...I am very satisfied with the results, both for them and myself.”
Marco, tutor

“I had the eldest grandmother … she couldn’t even turn the computer on.” Now, she works in word. It’s incredible!”
