TeleMouse Digital and Social Divide Award

The second year of Telemouse, the digital literacy plan for the elderly promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Telecom Italia, kicks off with a new challenge. In view of European Year of Volunteering 2011, the first edition of Telemouse 3.0 – Knowledge Volunteers has been launched. The presentation event will be held in Rome on November 30, 10.30 am at the Opificio Telecom Italia, via dei Magazzini Generali 20/a.

For the 2010-11 Academic Year, Telemousewill be present in 61 Roman schools and involve about 900 student tutors from all school levels. It’s not just PC abc and Internet navigation, the Telemouse intergenerational learning methodology allows seniors to discover e-government services and different options for communicating on-line: e-mails, chats, podcasts, webcams and social networks. The courses involve sixty coordinating teachers and 50 participating elderly centres where Telecom Italia has installed Internet Corners for this initiative.

Moreover, the Telemouse 3.0 – Knowledge Volunteers begins this year. This is a call sponsored by the Ministry of Youth that will award a scholarship for two experiences of excellence in the field of digital volunteering to two students who have demonstrated exceptional didactic and social abilities through TeleMouse lessons.

The objective of the award is to create a network of young “knowledge volunteers” to share experiences and competences, accelerate the creation of a knowledge society and gap the digital divide.

At the event:
  • Tullio De Mauro, Professor Emeritus Rome “La Sapienza” University and President of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale
  • Andrea Sergio Fantoma, Ministry of Youth, Department Head
  • Carlo Fornaro, Director of External Relations for Telecom Italia
  • Senator Mariapia Garavaglia
  • Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale
