Technology without Prejudice

Technology without Prejudice

“An inclusive knowledge society moulds innovation, education and fundamental values. The advantage produced by knowledge, new technology and innovation must benefit all individuals, without any form of discrimination, starting from children and adolescents.”

This is how Professor Tullio de Mauro, President of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, begins his cover story “Technology without Prejudice” on the latest edition of “Il Mondodomani”, bimonthly publication of the Italian Committee of Unicef.

An inclusive knowledge society is one of the goals towards which the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has been working since 2001 by hosting initiatives that promote the universal use of technology and especially by those who are at greatest risk of social exclusion such as students with special needs, the elderly, immigrants and refugees.

As Professor De Mauro points out in the article, Italy lacks confidence in the use of new technology. The majority of the population does little more than use a cell phone. While the intellectually more active and participant citizens, especially the young, make continuous use of ICT tools, this trend fades completely as we observe the most inert social groups (comprising over 50% of the population).
