Romecup 2018 – Excellence in Robotics in Rome welcomes a new team to the event: Team IRON from the Istituto di Istruzione Superiore “Amedeo Avogadro” high school and technical institute in Vercelli and Santhià, directed by Paoletta Picco. The students and their coordinating professors - Luca Oliva and Luciano Bossola – have already participated in other robotics competitions. This year, they will be at the event in Rome.
Professor Luca Oliva, interviewed by Fiammetta Castagnini, explains what drove the team to register for RomeCup 2018: "We were struck by the photographs, which were really very interesting." Indeed, the event grows larger and better every year. The collaboration with the universities of Rome and the mobilisation of the best practices in robotics led to the great event organised by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in the Engineering Macro-Area of the University of Tor Vergata in 2017. This year, the RomeCup will be held at the Università Campus Bio-Medico on April 16-18, 2018.
We will meet with Team Iron (10-25 students) on the Rescue Category fields and in the showcase area, where the school will be present with a stand; probably one of the most colourful and lively stands, as the students will bring four prototypes:
•Rover with a mechanical arm piloted by an Arduino Mega chipset and an on-board computer (Raspberrypi3 with video camera) and a range of functions;
•Intelligent mechanical arm with a Raspberry chipset that can recognise objects, intercept them and memorise movements;
•Multi-user vintage game console with an Arduino Mega controller and TFT 2.8-inch display (320x240 dpi) connected to a PC;
•Cat-Robot: walking robot with a variety of sensors.
Last week, Mirta Michilli and Alfonso Molina presented RomeCup 2018 at the Università Campus Bio-Medico in Rome [see news: Robot Intelligence].
