According to comScore data from June 2014, digital activity is on the rise amongst the population aged 55 and over. They are tomorrow’s “digital elders,” a population of 5.1 million users that make up 15% of all web users. Fifty-five per cent of them own a smartphone (8.5 million people), against the 70% figure for mobile users over the age of 13 (ca. 34 million). So what are elders up to these days?
According to Istat data (Cittadini e nuove tecnologie, 2014) only 9.3% of families with elders aged 65 or older own or use a smartphone.

The new “Tablet and Smartphone” guide will help elders select and use mobile devices. The new manual, like the preceding one on the Internet (La trama del web) was developed for Project Grandparents on the Internet.”
Both guides are part of the digital literacy didactic kit for over-sixties written by Matteo Troia (21) one of the first hundred digital champions.
