The awareness raising campaign for citizenship and government begins today on the eve of the United Nations Summit dedicated to the Millennium Objectives, a world summit scheduled for September 20-22 in New York. The Summit will evaluate the state of the Objectives, identify issues and agree on a concrete action plan to accelerate the enactment of the Millennium Objectives.
 
In 2000, adopting the Millennium Declaration, 189 leader world leaders agreed to work towards eliminating extreme poverty by identifying 8 concrete objectives to implement by 2015: reduce extreme poverty and hunger by 50%, achieve universal primary education, promote gender equality, diminish infant mortality, improve maternal health, fight HIV/AIDS, malaria and other illnesses, ensure environmental sustainability and develop a global partnership for development.
 
 
In 2000, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale promoted the Global Junior Challenge competition to fight inequality and poverty through social innovation by promoting the projects developed by young people from around the world. To date, more than 2500 projects have been evaluated by international juries and archived in the on-line database at www.gjc.it. Amongst these, 460 projects were selected for their excellence and developed in 70 different countries.
