“I could help elders learn about digital tools and become more independent in enjoying the digital services provided by our city. I would like to share my knowledge with young men and women and teach them how to use these technological tools in a more responsible, smart and creative way and prepare them to face the challenges of the future, both in education and work (i.e., use of job search platforms, making a CV, etc.).”

These are the objectives with which Francesca Lofaro, school collaborator and a volunteer at the Nuova solidarietà Association in Reggio Calabria, has started following the course to become  a digital ambassador for Project Smart for Europe.

“Once the course was over, I analysed the context and chose to share my digital knowledge with the third sector agency I work with, Nuova Solidarietà. I intercepted a need, identified a target with which to communicate and created the necessary content. Then, I began developing posts on the association’s social media channels to help young men and women (aged 18-28) who wish to become civil service volunteers to apply. The posts addressed a variety of issues from searching for the call to understanding the required requisites and presenting the project that Nuova Solidarietà presents to future volunteers.”

An issue that I emphasised, and which also was part of my course was the SPID – Digital ID System. Why? Because I had already noticed that young men and women who apply as volunteers often have problems completing the form and especially activating their digital identitites. So, I developed #SPIDpills. These are short videos in which I explain the SPID system, how and where it is used, and indicate all the steps necessary to register and activate a SPID. I choose to communicate via video, as this is the favoured medium of youth and adopted the video dimensions to each specific platform. I decorated the videos with dynamic coloured graphics to attract attention and with mixed music/voice audio, using a simple language both in the videos and the accompanying posts. The posts included the questions I received from young men and women, whom I invited to interact through calls to action. The objective is to continue to develop new content on digital issues in the coming months.”

With Project Smart for Europe, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale holds educational digital sessions to support the communication and information activities of  the Reggio Calabria Europe Direct Centre as part of Programme Aper Europe, currently in its fourth edition.

In particular, the project aims to train 50 digital ambassadors for Europe Direct in Reggio Calabria. The ambassadors will be of all ages and possess a good knowledge of technology to drive the multiplier effect of social learning.
