Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh Alfonso Molina launched two new proposals at the Culture of Innovation and participation Meeting held in Rome, Italy on December 10 at the Associazione Civita:
· Create a “Social Innovation Unit” to develop theories, tools, practices and national and international alliances to promote social innovation and pursue an inclusive knowledge society.
· Organise an international meeting featuring the participation of important research centres and organisms pursuing social innovation in order to stimulate the creation of international alliances.
Listen to Prof. Molina's presentation:
Prof. Molina believes that the currently unfolding crisis should not be an obstacle to development. On the contrary, it can be used as an opportunity to better define the type of society that Italy wants to be by re-examining the interests of all social parties. Technology plays a fundamental role in social innovation. This type of innovation will provide benefits to all of society, just like public education does to all the disadvantaged sectors of society such as the poor, the disabled, the unemployed and refugees.
Prof. Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh (UK) and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is not only a scholar. His commitment with the Foundation is to transform academic theory into practical tools that can be applied to development, information, and the diffusion of technology.
The presentation ended with a quote from a famous Spanish poet, Antonio Machado:
Caminante no hay camino,
Se hace camino al andar.
There is no road, traveller
The road is made whilst travelling ...
