Social Robotics Challenges

Last Friday, January 24, 85 students from 9 high schools in Lazio meta t the Spazio Attivo Roma Casilina for the first challenge of Project Scouting Future, a course on Robotics and Life Sciences promoted with Lazio Innova [see news: Grandparents, Robots and Grandchildren].

The day was opened by Paolo Orneli, Regione Lazio Councillor for Economic Development, Commerce and Craftsmanship, Research, Start-ups and Innovation, and Luigi Campitelli, Operations Director at Lazio Innova.

Luca Iocchi, Professor at the Sapienza University "A. Ruberti" Department of Computer, Control and Automation Engineering   launched the challenge: "Developing social robotics applications, robots that can improve the ways in which young people and elders interact.”

The 19 teams used Lego bricks to shape their ideas that will then be transformed into prototypes to present at RomeCup (April 20-24, 2020) at the Sapienza University “Marco Polo” Building.

"The students were immediately entranced and starting from real cases, their first-hand experiences, they developed very interesting proposals,” explains Prof. Iocchi.
