A Shared Award

“We are a complex school with 7 branches and 1200 students in the Sperone and Brancaccio neighbourhoods, the same area in which Father Pino Puglisi worked,” explains Antonella Di Bartolo, Headmistress at the Istituto comprensivo Sperone-Pertini in Palermo. She received the “Tullio De Mauro Award for Innovative and Inclusive Schools” for her vision "Percorsi di partecipazione verso nuovi immaginari" [see news: Challenge-Winning Schools].

For the tenacious vision with which she interprets her role in developing a school for each and every student. For having implemented, in a complex and impoverished context, a lively, generative and rooted school that represents emancipation, independence and liberty. A school promoting research and innovation and the wellbeing of a community in which everyone has a name. A school that is providing a future for its youth.

"This is an award to share with everyone because a school administrator cannot do anything alone,” Ms. Di Bartolo pointed out at the Awards Ceremony of the ninth edition of the Gobal Junior Challenge. "We look at Tullio De Mauro as a beacon in our daily action," she adds, after having received the award from his wife, Silvana Ferreri, who also was her Linguistics Professor at the University of Palermo.

"Schools must always be alert and accept the challenge of the present,” she adds in this brief interview with Ilaria Bonanni.
