RomeCup Competitions

Since its first edition, the RomeCup has been a multi-event including meetings, competitions, debates, original locations and the beautiful scenario of the Rome Campidoglio, with the halls of the Senatorial Palace welcoming the robots built by Italian and international schools.

Young men and women discover the excitement of learning to collaborate and share knowledge and skills in an open context. They explore the most inclusive frontiers of technology, from collaborative robots to artificial intelligence applications for health and the environment.

How can we modify such an intense, profoundly transformative experience into an on-line event?

This is the challenge that we need to face to organise the RomeCup which, due to the ongoing Covid-19 health emergency, will have to be held as phyrtual (physical and virtual) multi-event in 2021. The 14th edition (April 27-30) will have no boundaries. It will be in your pocket on smartphones. You can join at any time, follow the final rounds or meet one of the champions …

ROMECUPLAY will be organised just like a television palimpsest. You will be able to follow individually when you prefer, or as a class, interacting with classmates, educators and experts.

During the pandemic, physical and digital activities have been referred to as “phygital,” but we prefer “phyrtual,” because virtual is not always the same as digital. It’s a wider and more organised dimension, that serve as a space for learning.

Indeed, we’ll discover this with the three types of technical, synchronous and asynchronous, competitions [see regulations] that will be held in collaboration with the Robocup Junior Italia:

  • Documentation
  • Live video rounds
  • Interviews

  • ON STAGE – one or more robots will perform together with humans, either dressed up or moving creatively, interactively and collaboratively.
    Registration Form

  • SOCCER – soccer robots play in a delimited dynamic environment running after a special light-emitting ball.
    Registration Form

  • RESCUE LINE – challenge amongst rescue robots. The objective is to complete the mission, saving the “victims” and overcoming the obstacles.
    Registration Form

  • RESCUE SIMULATION – The teams face, which face off in virtual worlds, must develop and programme strategies to conquer the given objects.
