Robots in Residence

We are living a fourth revolution, days of radical change … In order to face these and other issues, the Goethe-Institut in Italy is organising a series of activities with partner institutions in Europe for 2020-21.

The first initiative that we wish to share with our community is Robots in Residence, an original robotic residence for developers and artists interested in robotics and artificial intelligence, living or working in Lazio or Lombardy.

The Goethe-Institut in Italy has published a call for two “Robots in Residence” scholarships, in Rome and Milan, as part of the “Generation A=Algorithm” Project and the German Presidency of the EU Council in 2020.

What is “Robots in Residence”?

The health emergency means that it is not possible to develop projects that require artists, speakers, experts, scientists, programmers or writers to travel or participate in events at our Institute or complete a residence. However, a Nao 6 Robot can make the trip without problems, in two legs, to Rome and Milan. However, before making the trip, it must be programmed with new competences by the scholarship winners over a three-week period.

The two call winners, selected by a three-expert jury, will receive a €1500-scholarship each.

The call deadline is May 27, 2020 at 11.59 pm.

Residence Dates

  • Rome: June 8-28, 2020
  • Milan: July 6-26, 2020
