The 2010 edition of RoboCup, which will be held on June 19-25 in Singapore, involves competitions amongst 500 teams from 40 countries. RoboCup is a competition that proposes research in the field of artificial intelligence and robotics. The international tournament, first held in Japan in 1997, is held yearly and features various different categories.
The main category is RoboCup Soccer, in which robots are specifically developed to play football. The long-term objective of "RoboCup" is to develop by 2050 a team of humanoid robots to challenge the reigning football world champion.
