Quality Education

A glove developed by two young students for oncological prevention during the health emergency, virtual journeys in European states to overcome the barriers of the lockdown and share the experience of special trips, a device that guarantees physical activity for sight-impaired students to be used during periods of isolation and pins that light up when children respect social distancing in class … these are just a few of the many projects that will be competing at the Global Junior Challenge, the international competition conceived and organised by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, that rewards the creative and innovative use of technology for education and the future of youth. The tenth edition, developed in collaboration with the Centro Studi Erickson and the patronage of the City of Rome, is dedicated to the project that used innovation and quality inclusion to promote inclusion, actively involving families and the entire educational community throughout the health emergency.

The three-day final event will open with a debate on “Schools as a Complex System” to reflect on the central role of school in personal, collective and community development. The appointment is on Wednesday, December 15, at 10:30 in the Rome Innovation Gym (Via del Quadraro 102) and in streaming on the FMD Facebook Page. The event will be documented by a team of young reporters from the Istituto comprensivo Gigi Proietti in Rome. The debate will be followed by collaborative work sessions with teachers, school administrators and parents on the challenges of systemic innovation, inclusive development and digital citizenship.

On Friday, December 17, the appointment is at the Rome Campidoglio for the Awards Ceremony. Participants will be welcomed by Rome’s Police Band. The following awards will be presented in the prestigious Aula Giulio Cesare: medals to the winning projects in the five categories (four age groups and one dedicated to job insertion), the “Tullio De Mauro Innovating Teacher 2021", the “Tullio De Mauro Innovating School Administrator 2021”, and Erickson awards to the 2021 innovating teacher and school administrator. The awards will be presented with Silvana Ferreri De Mauro.

Over the course of ten editions, the Global Junior Challenge has created a database of over 4000 projects, developed worldwide. The GJC has selected over 700 success cases and assigned over 100 awards.
