Orienting Children

Eighty percent of parents seek to speak with scientific experts to understand the opportunities provided by IT for the future of their children. This is what emerges from an exploratory survey conducted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, as part of its collaboration with Google on Project CS First (g.co/csfirst/genitori).

The research involved 200 parents in 10 discussion groups and analysed answers to 1700 questionnaires to focus on the impact of parents on the educational and professional decisions of their children in the field of computer science. One of the points that emerged from the study was the difficulty faced by parents in explaining computer science to their children. “Generations On-line” will address this too through a series of meetings with professionals on the great challenges of digital life.

The second session will be held on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:30 pm. Experts and role models will address professional applications of computer science to help parents orient their children without prejudice on educational and professional careers in science.

The event will be opened by Mirta Michilli who, with a degree in computer science and a PhD in Management, directs the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, a non-profit organisation that works to promote the digital inclusion of all citizens. Speakers include Enrico Galiano (teacher and author), Nicolò Santin (CEO and co-founder, Gamindo), Maria Teresa Rossi, PhD student, Gran Sasso Science Institute), Valentino Megale (CEO and co-founder, Softcare Studios). The event will be moderated by Ornella Sprizzi, content creator, entrepreneur, and mother of four.
