Every year, the members from 1600 fab labs around the world meet to share, discuss, collaborate and create communities on local and global issues concerning digital production, innovation and technology. This year #Fab15 will be held in Egypt, from July 28 to August 2, 2019, in El Gouna, near the Red Sea, and Cairo.
After the experience in France for #Fab14 in 2018 [see news: Fab Lab Networking], the Fondazione Mondo Digitale will participate in the event with a wearable technology project selected for the "Digital Fashion and Wearables" Area.
Based on Japanese tradition, Project Obitech reinterprets the sash used with a kimono. The sash is produced with a laser cutter and is fitted with electronic components, making it an intelligent device that can measure pollution and keep insects away thanks to an ultrasound sensor.
The project, which was premiered at the Fashion Digital Night (Altaroma, July 6), was developed at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym Fab Lab by Irene Caretti, Ilaria La Manna, Cecilia Stajano, Jacopo Diamanti, Kato Masakazu and Matteo Viscogliosi.
Obitech is part of Project Digital Made, promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, top accelerate digital transformation in the fashion sector, support Italian SMEs and develop new professional profiles and competences amongst the new generations. Beauty should not be a luxury item, but a common good, accessible to everyone, ethical and sustainable.
The Fondazione Mondo Digitale will be represented at #Fab15 by Matteo Viscogliosi, designer, maker and Coordinator of the Fab Lab Innovation Gym.
