The success story of robotics as a strategic development axis for smart specialization policies unfolds at RomeCup 2016. This year, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale has selected a school in the suburbs of Rome: the Istituto d’istruzione superiore Croce-Aleramo (Via B. Bardanzellu 7).
The school will host conferences and debates, labs, competitions and demos. On Friday, March 18, at 9:30 am, students and robots will move to the Rome Campidoglio for the final competition phase and the awards ceremony (ca. 12:30 am).
Here are a few numbers describing this extraordinary tenth edition, which also hosts the initial phases of the Robotic Olympics, promoted by MIUR.
- 156 COMPETING TEAMS: students from 58 schools in 17 Italian Regions;
- 753 YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN who are the protagonists of the competitions and showcase area;
- 80 TEACHERS acting as coaches;
- 20 DIDACTIC LABORATORIES for students aged 6-19 in a variety of areas and a lab for teachers;
- 85 STANDS with robotic prototypes in the RomeCup and Robotic Olympics Showcase Area;
- 200 ROBOTIC PROTOTYPES (as well as software, apps, chipsets, etc.) in the showcase area stands developed by exhibitors and school students;
- 56 CHAMPIONS selected for the Robotic Olympics from 46 schools in 17 Italian Regions and one Italian school abroad (Turkey);
- 7 PROJECTS from IIS M. T. Cicerone-G. Gatta, Sala Consilina (Salerno) selected for the Robotic Olympics;
- 10 REFEREES including, for the first time, a teacher;
- 9 CATEGORIES of competitions and the humanoid robot exhibition;
- 100 PROTOTYPES designed and developed by students;
- 65 boys and girls in the largest DELEGATION from IIS Archimede-Pacinotti in Rome;
- 100 HOSTESSES and STEWARDS to welcome visitors. These are the students from 5 year three classes from the Croce-Aleramo School (school-work programme);
- 12 is the age of the youngest COACHES in the “Surprise Robot” Lab organized by IC Don Milani (Latina).
