News from the Wilaya of Aaiun

Our first update on the mission to Aaiun for the second phase of the digital inclusion project for the Saharawi people has arrived today from Matteo Mennini, the President of the Bambini+Diritti Association. He informs us that a sandstorm has made communication even more complicated over the last few days.

We are well and everything is going fine. Prof. Micciulla and I have remained behind to work on the agreement with the Ministry of Education, which was signed this morning, while the rest of the group travelled to Dakhla.
I have contacted a construction firm to build the structures that we will need in the schools and am meeting with the teachers who will manage the project and be responsible for training from September 2011.
Micciulla and I have conducted some interviews to draft a document analyzing didactic methodologies that has been authorized and certified by the Directors fo the Education Department of the Aaiun and Ausserd Camps, where the computer laboratories for secondary school students will be created.
I don’t think we will be able to send further reports before leaving, but everything is going just fine, living with families is, as always, a marvellous experience and everyone loves it.
The atmosphere is tense. News from Morocco is about human rights violations against the Saharawi. The people are tired. They want to communicate and inform the world about their drama. We are their bridge.

All the best,
Matteo
