If you use a search engine with the key words “sassi” and “Matera,” you will obtain an endless listing of pages: sites, images, photos, descriptions… and one of these results will be the I sassi di Matera in realtà virtuale website, a project that has been entered in the 5th edition of the Global Junior Challenge. Why? What is the innovative idea? What is already on-line and what is planned for the future?
Elisa Amorelli has posed these questions to Gianni Maragno, the creator of the website and an expert in new technologies related to communication systems. Mr. Maragno has signed up for the GJC as a private citizen, obviously from Matera!
The website was developed to divulge the beauty of this ancient city in a different manner. Software allows visitors to take a virtual tour of the “Stone City” and view panoramic photographs. The idea was conceived in the nineties and developed in parallel with the new digital technologies.
The project is moving forwards … the objective of Gianni Maragno is to find sponsors and partners that will help him create a worldwide database of cave churches.
The I sassi di Matera in realtà virtuale is participating in the Global Junior Challenge in the “up to 29 years old” category.
