Light Artists

This year, the Media Art Festival will include Project European Light Expression Network (ENLIGHT) for a natural convergence on “audience development,” the strategic and dynamic process to enlarge and diversify the audience and improve usability conditions.

Enlight is implemented as part of the European Europa Creativa Programme that also aims to develop new audience segments for visual arts related to light.

Besides the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, project partners include: Manchester School of Art (United Kingdom), Curated Place (United Kingdom), I/O/Lab (Norway).

The “Artists in Residence” format has allowed each project partner to host an artist to develop a work of art that will be exhibited at three international festivals: Media Art Festival (Rome), Arctic Biennale di Stavanger (Stavanger) and Spectra Aberdeen’s Festival of Light (Aberdeen).

The selected artists, who will exhibit their works on April 27-29 at the MAXXI - Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, are the RaumZeitPiraten Collective, hosted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym; Yannis Kranidiotis, hosted by the Manchester School of Art (UK); and Stanza, hosted at the I/O/Lab Norway.

RaumZeitPiraten (Tobias Daemgen, Jan Ehlen, Moritz Ellerich) are an artistic collective that focuses on the concept of curves in time and space. Since 2007, they have united old and new, visual and auditory technology to develop sound and light architectures. Their works are interactive and experimentally connect sounds and images.

Yiannis Kranidiotis is a new media musician and artist. His work focuses on the creation of space and experience, combining sounds and lights, with interdisciplinary relations to music, sound art, visual art, electronics, physics and programme coding.

Stanza has been working since the mid-eighties on the city as an open locus and work that can create parallel realities. His work observes the behaviour, activities, and exchange of information in our world using Internet tools and data.

Project Enlight artists will meet with the public on April 28 at the Accademia delle Belle Arti.
