Knowledge Volunteer Awards

Two scholarships for best tutor, 6 special mentions and Libraryc Cards for all digital tutors. The Awards Ceremony marks the end of the two-year programme for digital literacy of the elderly promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Telecom Italia.

In two years, 12000 elders participated in the digital activities animated by tutors and volunteers from the schools of Rome: from classroom courses to workshops held at the Internet Corners in 50 elderly centres. One hundred and twenty free 30-hour courses to learn how to navigate the web and use public administration services on the web were attended by 3000 elders, supported by 1800 tutors and 150 coordinating teachers.

The jury – composed by the Department of Youth, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Telecom Italia – examined the profiles of 174 candidates for the first edition of the Telemouse 3.0 – Knowledge Volunteers Award: students aged 12-20 who chose to become digital tutors for the elderly. The awards were presented to:

  • Egzona Baxhak, 5th year at the liceo scientifico F. D’Assisi, was awarded a 500 euro scholarship for the extraordinary didactic and relationship-building capabilities demonstrated during Telemouse lessons.
  • Valentina Mura Balzoni (17) 3rd year at the Istituto d’istruzione superiore L. Pirelli was awarded a 1500 euro scholarship for commitment at the Telecom Internet Corner of her neighbourhood elderly centre.

Honorable mentions were presented for:

  • "Young emerging tutor" - Flavio Cangialosi, liceo classico Anco Marzio
  • "Young emerging tutor" - Tommaso Arcangeli, liceo classico L. Caro
  • “Career” – Marco Visconti, liceo classic Visconti
  • “Social Commitment” – Adele Berti Suman, Liceo classic L. Caro

The students' candidatures were presented by 312 voters: elders, teachers and tutors working in schools and elderly centres participating in Project.

Biblioteche di Roma will provide a free library membership card (Bibliocard) to all the knowledge volunteers.
