John E. Davies: Technology Leader of the Year

Latin Trade Bravo Business Awards are assigned each year to personalities that make exceptional contributions to the development of Latina America. This year the 16th edition has presented an award to John E. Davies, Director General of the Intel World Ahead Programme.

John Davies received the award for his work with developing countries to increase computer access and broadband technology as well as initiatives focusing on telemedicine for a small Brazilian town.

Industrialised countries have, on average, one computer for every student, but in Latin America the average is one computer for every five students. In the more developed OECD countries, 70% of families possess a PC and have broadband access, as opposed to only 6% of Latin American families.

Intel implements the World Ahead Program to bring technology resources to over 70 countries. The Programme has already activated over 200 operative plans to improve education and sanity, develop the economy and enrich life. Intel will invest US$1 billion over the next five years to obtain this goal and provide technology to everyone.

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale has collaborated with Intel for a number of years to reduce the digital divide in Italy. Starting this year, moreover, Intel is a national partner for the senior citizen digital literacy plan.
