Trust aWare: developing trust with a greater understanding of security
First in Europe and sixth worldwide is how Italy places in terms of ransomware and malware cyberattacks. These are applications that cause damage. They collect and intercept information, cause devices to malfunction, and encrypt files to demand a ransom from users to make the files accessible again.
An ANSA news release reports on the data that emerges from the last report by Trend Micro, a cybersecurity company. In particular, in May, the total number of ransomware attacks intercepted worldwide were 1.336.000.
Italy suffers the greatest number of cyberattacks in Europe and places sixth worldwide with 4.44% of all cyberattacks. The top positions in this unfortunate ranking are held by United States (19.82%), Turkey (12.13%), Japan (5.81%), Taiwan (5.73%) and India (5.71%). Ransomware represents a global threat. Just a few days ago, the FBI and American authorities announced the threat posed by a new virus, called Maui, which attacks health structures. At present, the virus has only been found in the United States.
In terms of malware, according to the Trend Micro Report, Italy places first in Europe and fifth worldwide. The top five countries are Japan (127,120,942), United States (77,384,579), India (24,534,066), Brazil (22,617,407), and Italy (17,396,690).
The five most attacked sectors by cybercriminals in Italy are public administration, health, tech sector, manufacturing, and banking.
The rising threat of cyberattacks calls for urgent training on a true culture of IT security for all citizens, who, after being equipped with adequate tools to identify system and device vulnerabilities, must learn to protect themselves adequately.
