More than 150 people, including the presidents of the 50 elderly centres involved in the project and students from the Liceo Scientifico Plinio Seniore, were present at the presentation of Telemouse, a project dedicated to the digital literacy of senior Romans.

“To date, with Grandparents on the Internet, we have involved over 7500 elders, 4000 students and 500 teachers,” recounts Mirta Michilli, Director General of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. “This model of digital literacy for adults has proven to be a real success. It has also been replicated abroad. Over the course of the next three years, Telecom Italia will help us promote Telemouse, a project that presents various new features over the project model used to date.”

Elderly centres will be involved directly through the installation of 50 Internet Corners sponsored by Telecom each with three PCs. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale will not only work in the schools, but also at the elderly centres to provide all registered students with the opportunity to use news means of communication. Moreover, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is developing new didactic modules on public administration e-government services and new communication technologies.

The third new feature is Phyrtual.com, an on-line learning environment to promote the sharing and socialization of good practices, a social network in which each user can actively participate and contribute to the growth of the projects.

The objective of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale is to export the Telemouse Model to the rest of Italy thanks to the support of Telecom Italia and the experience accumulated with the Grandparents on the Internet Project and the new inter-generational didactic model that has proven of great educational value to the new generations.
