In January, 150 computers were delivered and the Internet stations are now being installed. Thanks to the agreement undersigned in September 2008 with the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, the Eni Foundation, participates not only in the recycling campaign exploiting unused company PCs, but also covers the costs involved in installing the Internet stations as well as a one year Internet subscription. The Fondazione Mondo Digitale, which manages and coordinates the various operations, is also training expert navigators, all over the age of 60.
Mr. Rosario, President of the Parco Schuster multi-purpose centre, explains that the Internet connection is a fundamental achievement. The centre, which is located right by the San Paolo Basilica and the Third University of Rome, serves as a reference point for the entire neighbourhood.
“It was created for the 2000 Jubilee,” says Pino, who just can’t keep still. After having worked for years as the coordinator of a transport company, he has been very active in getting the centre ready for the adsl connection. He knows all about the Parco Schuster. He wants the centre to continue to improve and expand the range of activities it provides to its members. The centre also has a park that houses benches and gazebos during the summer. This year might be ripe for a green Internet station with an outdoors wireless connection.
Fulvio, who used to work for a telecom company, collaborates with the President and has begun to organise the first computer course provided by the centre, which was one of the first to participate in the Grandparents on the Internet courses. Even Fulvio attended his first computer course at the Istituto tecnico industriale Armellini in the San Paolo neighbourhood. Now, as senior tutor, Fulvio is ready to sign up all the elderly members want to use the Internet Corner.
