Intergenerational Exchange

6 regions from southern Italy, 120 digital literacy courses in two years, 8000 over-sixty citizens involved together with 1500 student tutors and 240 coordinating teachers. From Santa Teresa di Gallura (OT) in Sardinia to Sciacca (AG) in Sicily by way of Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Calabria, the two-year Nonni SUD Internet plan, is promoted by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in partnership with Auser and Anteas and the support of the Fondazione con il Sud.

On April 9, 2013, ITIS G. Ferraris hosted a morning to the results and experiences of the project protagonists. Besides schools and elderly centers, participants include:

• Carlo Borgomeo, President - Fondazione con il Sud
• Arnaldo Chianese, President -  Anteas National Office
• Vincenzo Ciotola, Headmaster - ITIS G. Ferraris, Scampia (Na)
• Vincenzo Costa, President - Auser National Office
• Patrizia Di Monte, Director General - Arlas (Agency for Work and Education), Campania
• Mirta Michilli, Director General - Fondazione Mondo Digitale
• Alfonso Molina, Professor of Technology Strategy at the University of Edinburgh and Scientific Director of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale

The Municipality and Mayor of Naples were represented by Felice Balsamo.

Carlo Borgomeo explains the commitment of Fondazione con il Sud for this project: “We developed a call to finance the most innovative ideas and this project is very innovative. Its value lies in the fact that it points on intergenerational dialogue. We are used to thinking about senior citizens and youth as two separate problems, an absolutely blind perspective. And this project proves it.”

“Today was a true success. Energy and positive thinking emerges abundantly from the smiles and words of young and old participants. It’s the same energy that we have witnessed throughout the course of these two years in six Italian regions,” points out Alfonso Molina from the Fondazione Mondo Digitale at the end of the event.

Project Nonni SUD Internet is financed by the Fondazione con il Sud as part of the “Special and Innovative Projects” action line.
