RomeCup 2024: the Cles school project wins the Agrobot Contest.

Last year, they travelled over 600 kilometres to participate in RomeCup. “We wanted to understand if, as a school, we had the skills to participate in this beautiful event,” explains Teresa Periti, Director of the Liceo Bertrand Russell in Cles, in the Province of Trento. “The teachers believed in it, and so did the students, who

With Project “Harvest Security, Agriculture,” devised with the Rome Campus Bio-Medico University, students from Cles won the AgroBOT Contest with a special wagon, equipped with an AI system, to eliminate the risk of accidents during the harvesting of the high quality apples in the Val di Non [see news: RomeCup 2024: Creative Contest Winners].

“Using this technology would improve safety by preventing injuries caused by harvesting trucks,” explained the students in their presentation during the final event at RomeCup. “The people who work there would therefore be safer and exposed to less risk. As a consequence of the reduction in accidents, work is not interrupted, and substitute workers not required.”

“The students put their hearts and passion into the project. It was really nice to see their effort, which materialized into the first prize,” says teacher Federico Gabriel Conde. The emotional aspect and the growth dimension of the entire experience are also important. “We also put everything into it at the scientific level. There was a lot of work behind it, a truly vast preparation that in the end rewarded us,” added the science professor.

Valentina, Davide e Valerio are in Class IVD in the applied sciences programme. In the video, they talk about their project. Valentina is keen to point out the female contribution to the victory, in contests where young men always represent the majority.

The creative contests were coordinated by Eleonora Curatola.
