The research project on Level of Participation in Italian Cultural Life edited by Tullio De Mauro and Adolfo Morrone, indicates that individuals in participation levels 4 or 5 have a very good command of ITC technology.

In fact, nearly all the individuals in these two levels use PCs and Internet and respectively 71.7% and 82.8% use mobile telephony not only to make phone calls, but also to exploit its many other functions. Inversely, the individuals who populate the first two levels exhibit a very low fruition of PCs and mobile phones. More than 64% of the individuals in the first two levels only uses mobile phones to make phone calls, while this percentage plummets to 17% among the individuals in level five.
