High Tech for Elders

The twenty students that have reported to class today at the IIS Rosselli in Genoa, haven’t been to school for at least half a century [see news: The Grandparent’s Welcome].

The Men and women in the class have the most diverse professional history: drivers, teachers, railway workers, firemen, mechanics, shop clerks, plumbers … The two sexes are equally represented and their average age is 73, while the eldest is Carmelina, 88, who worked as an obstetrician and witnessed the birth of hundreds of children!

And now they are all ready to experience a new form of existence: the digital world. They will be entrusted to young students who will introduce them to this new life and to the benefits that elders can enjoy from technology.

Today, in fact, Project "Grandparents On-line. Everyone’s Young at the Post Office", promoted by Poste Italiane, kicks off at IIS Rosselli in Genoa, where twenty students, coordinated by Professor Graziella Gaia at the school managed by Headmistress Miria Luigina Carpaneto, will tutor the older students. The first two lessons will be held today from 3 to 5 pm.

And from Genoa, we move to Trento to discover how young students are helping over-65s learn about technology.
