Grandparents on the Internet - New Courses

The “A. Leonori” School in Acilia (Rome) is a very dynamic and welcoming school that interacts with its neighbourhood. If one needed any further evidence of this, Massimo La Rocca, one of the school’s administrators, has decided to use the newly outfitted PC labs to host the Grandparents on the Internet Project. This will allow elders in the area to return to school and learn about PCs.

Thursday 29th January – First day of school

It’s not easy to follow up on everything that takes place with the Grandparents on the Internet Project…  Only in Rome, courses are being held in every district. Romano Santoro, School Coordinator for the FMD and Cecilia Stajano, responsible for local learning communities, always strive to be present – in person or virtually – at the inauguration of a new event. Last Thursday, Cecilia was there …

The members of the Acilia Elderly Centre arrived as a group, early, at the school for their course. They were orderly and happy if timid. They were welcomed by a team of young eighth grade tutors who after a quick lunch were very curious to meet their new “students”.

The tutors of the Leonori School have accepted with great responsibility the roles assigned to them by the teachers, Anna Maria and Anna.

In the classroom, the atmosphere is jovial. The lesson starts right after the welcome by the school’s management. After the initial formal approaches, the Grandparents and tutors start to act like old friends and delve into the work at hand! The students are proud to have this responsibility and happy to be able to teach the grandparents what they know, while the grandparents are awed when they discover that they can learn to use these new technologies. The first lesson is over in second. They have learnt how to turn a PC on and off and use a folder on the desktop by repeating the actions several times.
