Today, Monday, November 28, is the first day of lessons for the new class of over-sixties at IPSIA Edmondo De Amicis in Rome for the Grandparents on the Internet (GOI) Course.
And the schools of Rome have always been a protagonist of GOI. In, 2002, the first project lesson was held in Rome with the intergenerational model to promote digital literacy amongst elders. The issue of intergenerational solidarity is one of the central values promoted by the Rome Città Educativa that aims to place school at the centre of city life to promote lifelong learning amongst all generations.
“Grandparents on the Internet” is the project’s traditional name. And this year, the project has reached its 15th edition. The intergenerational learning model has also inspired various other local and national projects and the creation of the Network of Knowledge Volunteers: 40,000 individuals of all ages and countries that are committed to the exchange of knowledge and competences. All project activities are supported by didactic manuals, questionnaires, evaluation tests, guides, etc.
Over the course of 14 editions, more than 30,000 elders received digital diplomas with the help of 21,000 student tutors and two 2000 coordinating teachers.
