Grandparents on the Internet - 10th Edition in Rome

The centre is in Rome’s XVIII District, one of the areas with the largest percentage of over-65s (22%). The first Grandparents on the Internet course of the 10th edition of the digital literacy programme for elders will be held at the All'Istituto Comprensivo Maria Capozzi (via Ennio Bonifazi 64).

Thirteen members of the Centro anziani "Valcannuta" (via Valcannuta 8, Boccea)will take advantage of the inter-generational learning method developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale. Twelve women and one man, aged 53 to 81; while the 8 tutors are from first degree secondary school.

As in any first day of school, the coordinating teacher tries to get to know his students better. The elders explain what motivated them to take the course and learn how to use new technology: mainly to keep in touch with distant children. One mother has a daughter in Scotland, while another has one in California. Skype helps them follow their grandchildren and feel less far away.

Cecilia Stajano gathered the impressions of some of the protagonists of the first lesson.
