FIUGGI – THE “GRANDPARENTS ON THE INTERNET” PROJECT HAS BEEN PRESENTED TO THE MUNICIPALITIES IN SOCIAL ASSISTANCE DISTRICT A.
THE Fondazione Mondo Digitale presents the results of the challenge undertaken in Italy and abroad to promote active ageing.
"The elderly in the Province of Frosinone are back at their school desks to learn how to navigate the web, consult on-line public administration services and keep up with the times by overcoming their initial diffidence with the web and computes thanks to school children, who are the teachers in the Grandparents on the Internet model.
The project was presented at the International conference on “New Technologies and the Challenge for Active Ageing” held in Fiuggi.
In 2003, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale launched the “Grandparents on the Internet” Project in Italy. The project is sponsored by Intel and has been exported as an inter-generational learning model to Belgium, Romania and Spain with Project Silver, which has obtained encouraging results through a 30-hour course that has enabled 70% of its participants to regularly navigate the web.
Now, the new challenge is to spread to every corner of the Lazio Region and the fifteen municipalities of “Distretto socio assistenziale A” in the Province of Frosinone that have joined the project to provide over-sixties with the knowledge necessary to avoid social exclusion and reduce the generational gap.”
