Five days in the Lebialem Region, a full agenda of meetings with local authorities, associations operating on the territory and the schools that participate in the Digital Bridge Project, a technological bridge with Cameroon.
Mr. Antonio Alfonsi represented the Lazio Region Department of Consumer Protection and Administrative Simplification that finances the project.
Here are the first impressions recounted by Elisa Amorelli, Press Officer for the Fondazione Mondo Digitale:
When you arrive in Fontem, all the preconceived notions begin to fall apart and one feels immediately protected by the environment and the people. The trip is fascinating and the people are extremely hospitable. The people are really itching to communicate!
The trip agenda was packed full with appointments, but we managed to see all the most important things and verify the development of the project. The object of the trip, in fact, was to assess the level of connection between Fontem and the rest of the world and the correct operation of all the devices that had been installed previously.
The Lats technicians worked together with us. They are very competent at what they do. The Digital Bridge Project is clearly a success and has had very positive results. We have to continue promoting this initiative and resolve the issues that arise in Fontem (such as voltage peaks) by finding the most adequate solutions.
Thanks to the Digital Bridge Project, schools and institutions have Internet connections, while in Rome I still find households that are not on-line. This is really surpirising!
