Mirta Michilli at the Sustainable Development Festival
The Sustainable Development Festival (Oct. 4-20) takes place in Italy as well as the international level through Italian diplomatic seats to raise awareness on issues related to economic, social, environmental and institutional sustainability.
Mirta Michilli has been invited to contribute to the section focusing on the role of foundations for sustainable development. The work session on “Prosperity – Social Empowerment” will take place on Tuesday, October 18 at the Auditorium del Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome (see programme).
An increasing number of Italian foundations are looking to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as the principles on which to centre their activities. This is an important process in consideration of the foundations, networks and philanthropic associations working at the international, national and (especially) local level to reinforce the social, entrepreneurial and cultural systems and contribute to awareness, resilience and innovation in local communities.
Due to their autonomy, foundations are often characterized by very different missions, resources, governance, and operative models. This wealth of points of view is reflected in the position paper published by the group for last year’s G20 and which addresses some of the main issues targeted by the SDGs – people, planet, and prosperity – on which the foundations are working. The event promoted as part of the Festival for Sustainable Development will allow the discussion, for each point, on the urgency of developing and extending the collaboration with other public and private actors, in an environment of effective subsidiarity.
