How to build reliable information with intergenerational dialogue

In a fragmented media ecosystem dominated by the speed of information, how can we restore trust between citizens and the media? What strategies can counter disinformation without limiting freedom of expression? Are digital platforms still tools for democratic participation or are they redefining the priorities of the public interest?

Tomorrow, Thursday 20 March, from 3 to 5.30 pm, the final event of the European project e-EngAGEd (Intergenerational Digital Engagement), funded by the European Commission, will take place, dedicated to the role of the media in digital society and intergenerational involvement in information. The meeting, entitled ‘Beyond Generations: A Shared Vision for the Future of Media Integrity’, takes place online on the Zoom platform with the participation of industry experts, journalists, educators and policy makers.

Promoted by the Athens Lifelong Learning Institute, the European Association for Viewers' Interests Aisbl, the European Federation of Journalists, the European Knowledge Hub and the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, the event is an opportunity to explore innovative strategies to strengthen trust in the media and counter the impact of digital platforms on attention and the public sphere.

Two thematic focuses

  • ‘Building trust and public engagement in the media’
  • Moderated by Renate Schroeder (Efj), the session explores the role of the media in producing quality information and strengthening the relationship with citizens.
  • ‘The Stolen Focus: Big Tech and the public interest’
  • Led by Paolo Celot (Eavi), the discussion analyses the impact of large digital platforms on our attention and on the quality of public debate.

The event is open and free of charge. It is open to anyone interested in better understanding the challenges of communication in the digital age, with a focus on media literacy, journalism and media integrity [registration form].

An opportunity to reflect on the dynamics of information and build together a more transparent and reliable media ecosystem. We look forward to seeing you there!
