"Everyone on Internet" Kicks Off

The fourth edition of the Digital Literacy Week dedicated to adults and especially to over-sixties is back from March 30th to April 3rd 2009. The Elderly centres and the schools that participated in the Grandparents on the Internet Project invite citizens back to school to learn how to write a letter on a computer, send an e-mail or use on-line public administration services.

The Digital Literacy Week will be officially inaugurated today in Rome where the initiative was first conceived. The event will take place at the liceo ginnasio statale “Dante Alighieri” (via Ennio Quirino Visconti 13) at 4 pm. School administrator Carlo Mari will deliver “diplomas” to the elders who attended the 7th edition of the “Grandparents on the Internet” courses and certificates to coordinating teachers and students (who will be able to use this experience as credit).

Starting on Monday March 30th and for the entire week, 20 primary and 44 secondary schools throughout Rome and its province, as well as other areas in Lazio, Marche and Umbria, will have their computers on and their Internet connections active. 1500 elders who have just completed their “Grandparents on the Internet” course, 1000 young tutors and 100 coordinators for the digital literacy course designed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale will welcome aspiring digital citizens and introduce over-sixties to the wonders of technology.
