Everyone on the Internet

The ninth edition of Everyone on the Internet – Digital Literacy Week dedicated to adults and especially to over-sixties will be held on April 7-11, 2014. The schools and elderly centres participating in Project Grandparents on the Internet, or one of the many spin-offs of the project promoted in 17 regions, invite citizens to return to school and learn how to write with a computer, surf the web, use e-mail and enjoy on-line services provided by the public administration.

For an entire week, starting on April 7, Internet-connected computers will be on-hand at schools in the regions of Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia Romagna, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicilia, Tuscany, Umbria, Veneto and Trentino.

Aspiring digital citizens will be welcomed by young tutors, certified grandparents and the teachers coordinating the Grandparents on the Internet courses. The Grandparents on the Internet Project was developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to introduce the generation of over-sixties to modern technology and promote active ageing.

Moreover, the Digital Literacy Week is a further opportunity to employ the intergenerational learning model (learning, exchange and volunteering) developed by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale to contrast all forms of social exclusion and allow the new generations to acquire strategic competences to live and work in the 21st century.
