She didn’t take a seat along with her classmates in front of the portable computers donated by Toshiba (hardware) and Microsoft (software). The Mayor waited for the beginning of the official ceremony, the re-opening of the multimedia lab at the San Demetrio Ne’ Vestini Institute.
Elisa Climastone, 13, is the children’s mayor of this small municipality in the Province of L’Aquila (Abruzzi). After the welcome message by “senior” Mayor Silvano Cappelli and the message of school administrator Lucia Di Giulio, Elisa addressed the gathering:
“After everything that happened on the night of April 6th, we have received a lot of generosity and this, as well as all the other help we have received, is very important. I would like to thank the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and e Toshiba for donating the computers that will not only be used by students, but will also be used to introduce our grandparents to this technology. We will be their tutors. For once, the young will accompany individuals of greater experience on a new adventure towards new knowledge …”
The first Grandparents on the Internet course in Abruzzi will begin in January and Elisa will be the first “tutoring mayor” in eight editions of this project!
