On September 26-30, a Chilean delegation including experts in geology and geophysics, university professors and schools will be in Italy to share their expertise on earthquakes. The programme includes a meeting in the Italian Parliament, a press conference at Sapienza University and didactic labs organized by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with the University of Chile and the Chilean Embassy in Italy that will be held in schools in Rome, L’Aquila and Amatrice.
The interactive labs will help inform and raise awareness about seismological events amongst students. The seismologists will show students how to understand earthquake dynamics thanks to a special tool – the “Máquina de Terremotos” – conceived by Prof Jaime Campos and developed at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym Fab Lab. The “earthquake machine” simulates the friction phenomenon that underlies every earthquake and reveals the fundamental uncertainty in every telluric event.
The full programme will be available shortly.
In the video, Mauro Del Santo, Fab Lab Coordinator at the Phyrtual Innovation Gym, explains how the “earthquake machine” was built.
