Grandparents on the Internet competes for the "European e-Inclusion 2008" Award.
The 2008 European e-Inclusion Awards, the European Community Competition for the 35 best European inclusion projects, features the participation of the Grandparents on the Internet Project in the “Projects reserved for the elderly in order to promote and develop a greater participation in society and the economy” category.
The other six categories include:
- Projects aimed at disadvantaged or emarginated young people in order to increase their skills through the use of IT
- Geographical inclusion projects to guarantee quality of access and support the use of technology in rural areas
- Inclusion projects for minority ethnic groups and immigrants in order to support their social participation and increase their competencies
- Digital literacy projects aimed at the elderly, the disabled, low-income subjects and people with little or no technological know-how as well as the unemployed
- Projects aimed at reaching high standards of IT accessibility
- Projects for the implementation of inclusive public services (category reserved to public organisations).
The five finalists for each category will be hosted at the awards ceremony that will be held in Vienna on December 1st. The projects will be evaluated on the basis of six parameters:
- Impact on the community
- Innovative use of technology
- Number of beneficiaries
- Collaboration with other organisations
- Long-term sustainability
- WOW factor – the ability to amaze and involve beneficiaries.
