Discovering the Web

To celebrate World Teachers’ Day  (Oct. 5) and Grandparents’ Day (Oct. 2), the Postal Police has organised a workshop on on-line safety for Italian primary schools [see Interland: Digital Adventures].

Today, they will meet with over 50,000 children who will receive a free copy of “Interland: Digital Adventures. The book, which aims to help children and their families address web security, has been produced by Google, the Italian Police, the Fondazione Mondo Digitale and Altroconsumo, a partner of Project Fully Enjoy the Internet. The book is published by Gribaudo and is available for free (while supplies last) at all Feltrinelli bookstores.

Specialists from the Postal Police will encourage intergenerational dialogue on digital issues and drive grandparents and digital natives to seek reciprocal help and develop the fundamental skills to live on-line with the due attention.

The protagonists of the book are Granpa Agenore and his grandchildren, Davide and Matilde, who, for their grandfather’s birthday, travel across the “four Reigns of Interland” in search of a hidden gift.

The objective of the activities is to teach the children about the communication potential of the web and on-line communities, without running into cyberbullying, privacy violations, inappropriate content, copyright violations and the adoption of inappropriate or dangerous behaviour, both for themselves and others.
