“Every person has the right to continuous learning”. This is how the popular law proposal promoted with Flc, Spi and Auser begins. The first signatories include secretary general of the Cgil trade union, Guglielmo Epifani, and linguist Tullio De Mauro, President of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale.
Two slogans have been chosen to promote the collection of signatures for the Act: “Knowing How to Count” and “Learning Always”.
The initiative was presented on Wednesday June 10th at a Press Conference held at the Cgil National Headquarters in Rome.
Tullio De Mauro, President of the Fondazione Mondo Digitale, reminds us once again that the data collected for Italy presents a preoccupying scenario: only 6.2% of adults participate in educational activities (the EU average is 9.7% and the Lisbon Objective is set at 12.5%). Only 20% of the adult Italian population is sufficiently confident to efficiently face the current challenges presented by life and work.
“All around the world, there are segments of the adult population that relapse into greater or lesser conditions of illiteracy. In Italy, we are faced with heaps of citizens who have difficulty in decoding even minimal written information.”
