Computer Skills for Refugees

The Basic Computer Manual and the Advanced Computer Manual, edited by Manuela Lo Prejato with the supervision of Alfonso Molina, simplify the Microsoft Digital Literacy curriculum and enrich it with the issues dearest to Centro Enea guests. This means that students can prepare for the Microsoft certification exam, whilst also finding practical answers to their various training needs.

In particular, in terms of the Microsoft certification’s three levels (Basic, Standard, Advanced), the FMD manuals are organised as follows:

  • Microsoft Basic Level (starting a PC, mouse, keyboard) is included in the basic manual and has been adapted to the needs of Centro Enea guests (access to resources in the Internet Lab);
  • Microsoft Standard Level (description of hardware and software to safety software, etc.) is distributed between the basic and advanced levels and adapted to refugee necessities (see below);
  • Microsoft Advanced Level (Internet research, creating an e-mail account, social networks) is also distributed amongst the basic and advanced levels and adapted to refugee needs (i.e., how to find a bus and move around locally).

The manuals are the result of research and trials conducted at the Centro Enea. They are constantly improved and adapted to student needs.
