Coding Girls in Milan

Today, Phyrtual Innovation Gym Coach Lara Forgione [@ForgioneLara] is in Milan on an educational mission to involve new students in the fourth edition of Programme Coding Girls.

From 9 am to 1 pm, she will hold an educational session at ITAS Giulio Natta, the school directed by Headmistress Maria Cucinotta, with 25 students coordinated by Prof. Maria Amato, who is particularly involved in social innovation. In fact, she is one of the coordinating teachers for the Grandparents on the Internet Project, too.

In the afternoon, Lara Forgione will meet with 15 students at IIS Falcone Righi in Corsico, the school managed by Headmistress Maria Vittoria Amantea. The Coordinator for didactic activities, Prof. Paola Pupilli [@Paola_Pupilli], knows how to involve her girls in creative and exciting activities. She came up with the gadgets that animated last year’s hackathon in Milan.

Both sessions will include training with Scratch, the free programming language developed by the Lifelong Kindergarten Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab. Scratch makes it simple and fun to create and share interactive stories, games and animations on the web.

STEM IN THE CITY

The Fondazione Mondo Digitale is a protagonist of STEM in the CITY, a month of events to raise the awareness of young men and women on digital culture and encourage young women to study technical and scientific subjects.

Project #STEMintheCity has the patronage of the United Nations (ITU and UNRIC), the Equal Opportunities Department of the Cabinet and the Regional School Office. It is organised by the City of Milan in collaboration with private and public organisations.
