“The basic idea is to build a robot that can pick fruit from average-to-low height trees. It recognises strawberries, for example, through its video camera and cuts the stem to quickly harvest the fruit.” Francesco, a student at the Liceo Vito Volterra in Ciampino, explains his passion for robotics to a reporter from the “Studenti” Magazine. Francesco will be participating in the RomeCup 2018 Agrobot Contest together with his team from the University of Tor Vergata.
After taking his state exams (Maturità 2018), Francesco “wants to try applying to study Aerospace Engineering at the Universities of Turin, Milan and Rome-Sapienza. He would like to specialise in space after his bachelor’s degree.” Francesco’s passion started after he attended a school-work programme and his experience at ENEA and INFN, as well as the encouragement by his professor, Massimo Pescatori. How? In the article, Veronica Adriana writes about Francesco and the agricultural robot.
