Understanding artificial intelligence in order to teach it with awareness
According to the latest Talis 2024 survey, only one in four Italian teachers (25%) say they have used artificial intelligence in their work, compared to an OECD average of 36%. Most of those who use it do so to study or summarise a topic (70%), produce lessons or activities (68%), or support students with special educational needs (61%).
Among those who do not use it, 69% say they do not have the knowledge or skills to do so, and 39% cite a lack of adequate infrastructure. The data paints a picture of a school system that believes in training but still needs tools and courses to truly understand AI and learn how to use it wisely.
To meet this need, the Experience AI course was created, co-developed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind, with the support of Google.org and translation and distribution in Italy by the Fondazione Mondo Digitale ETS.
This free programme is dedicated to teachers of all levels, helping them to acquire basic knowledge of artificial intelligence, develop critical thinking and discover ready-to-use teaching resources.

A meeting to discover what artificial intelligence really means and how it works.
From the distinction between rule-based and data-driven systems to the logic of machine learning, teachers will acquire basic knowledge to interpret the language of AI and explain it in a clear and accessible way to students.
In closing, a brief overview of the free resources available on the Experience AI platform.
Key topics
• What artificial intelligence is (and what it is not)
• How machines learn
• Introductory activities for the classroom

With Elisa Chierchiello, PhD Student, Computer Science Department, University of Turin
A webinar dedicated to the ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence and the role of teachers in guiding the conscious use of these technologies.
From algorithm transparency to data bias to the skills required by new professional profiles, participants will explore useful tools and reflections for addressing the challenges of AI in the classroom.
At the end, there will be a demonstration of the activities proposed by Experience AI to stimulate critical thinking and orientation towards the professions of the future.
Key topics
• Ethical principles: Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, Privacy, Sustainability
• Tools for critical analysis (model cards, decision trees)
• AI and orientation towards emerging professions
